Customer Feedback
kings & queens for the day - royal readers in class

Although there is solid evidence in Gulu of a steady improvement in reading levels, there is nothing like reading these recent comments from the teachers and trainers to bring the statistics to life. The testimonials and pictures speak for themselves.

'It was a joy to see 164 kids every day for a period of 3 weeks showing up with enthusiasm and eagerness to start each day.'

'We held group sessions in read aloud, some fun, literacy activities & outdoor games; it is great to see the amount of progress, which surpassed our expectations.'

Looking back over the holiday programme, the team made the following observations:

  • a noticeable increase in reading speed & confidence.
  • a real spark in their imagination evidenced by the children asking thoughtful questions
  • attendance was really good
  • good understanding & retention
  • amazing computer & fluency activities
  • numerous open discussions & group activities, especially in Maths
  • attention span of the learners improved
  • outdoor games provided a chance for free play - and with maximum participation!

And in other good news, the mobile libraries in local schools continue to go from strength to strength. The programme is expanding, as is the need for books to fill the libraries.

"Pupils are using the learnt vocabulary in their daily communication and interaction with their classmates"  Headteacher Ben from El-Shaddai

"It is impossible to find readers & quality picture books on the Ugandan market. Sharing the mobile libraries with their variety of books and content is such a support to help schools develop a love for reading" Headteacher at Mmanuel primary school
